To increase the Wi-Fi range of our existing Wi-Fi router, we could usually install a Netgear wireless range extender with it. Once installed, we get a consistent Wi-Fi signal everywhere inside our home. But, to install a Netgear wireless range extender with our wifi router, we have to set it up first. We could setup the Netgear wireless range extender in two ways. One way of doing it is by using the web browser setup which is also a manual setup and the other way of doing it is to use the Wireless protected setup which also an automatic setup.
Mywifiext.net is used to begin the setup process
To begin the web browser setup, we need to visit www.mywifiext.net. But before we do that, we have to connect our laptop or desktop computer with the Wi-Fi network of the Netgear wireless range extender. Once connected, then, we have to open any web browser on the laptop and put www.mywifiext.net on the address bar. After that, we have to search for it. After searching, we would be on the setup page and we would see a new extender setup button on the screen and by clicking on that button, we could begin the setup process.
mywifiext.net is not working
Sometimes, we might face problems while trying to open www.mywifiext.net. It could be due to many reasons. If such is the case, the first thing we have to do is to change our web browser in which we are trying to open www.mywifiext.net. If it did not work, then, we have to turn off both of the router and Netgear wireless range extender and turn back them on after one minute. Once both of the devices will be up and running then, we need to search again for www.mywifiet.net.
Resetting the Netgear wireless range extender is the last option
If none of the way discussed above works, then the only option we left with is to hard reset the Netgear wireless range extender to factory defaults. That will delete all the settings from the Netgear wireless range extender. To reset the Netgear wireless range extender, we have to take a paper pin and enter that pin onto the side of it on the reset hole. We have to press and hold the pin for 7 to 10 seconds. Once all the lights on the Netgear wireless range extender will start flashing, we have to remove the pin. Then it will take up to minute to apply all the settings. At last, we again have to open www.mywifiext.net on the web browser and this time it will take us to the setup page.
Every networking device we use like a router, extender, switch or any other, each of it have a default IP address assigned to it from its manufacturer. We could change that IP address later on if we want to after setting up that particular device. The Netgear wireless range extender do have its own default IP address that is being assigned by Netgear. The default IP address of Netgear wireless range extender is 192.168.1.250. There are several uses of the IP address of a Netgear wireless range extender.
We could setup the Netgear wireless range extender either using the web browser setup or wireless protected setup. If, we ant to setup the Netgear wireless range extender using the web browser setup, we have to put www.mywifiext.net on the address bar of any web browser of a desktop computer or a laptop. But sometimes we are not lucky enough and when we try to search www.mywofext.net, we are not able to reach the setup. It could be due to many reasons like some settings on our computer or it could be due to the web browser itself that we are using to initiate the Netgear wireless range extender.
Using IP address instead of www.mywifiext.net
If, the setup process is not being initiated with www.mwifiext.net, we could initiate it by using the default IP address of Netgear wireless range extender. All we have to do is to put the default IP address on the address bar of the web browser in place of www.mywifiext.net and search it. So, we have to open up any web browser on our desktop computer or a laptop and we have to put 192.168.1.250 on the address bar. After that, we have to search for it. Within few seconds the web browser setup will get initiated.
Using a hardwired connection to use IP address
If we are not able to initiate the web browser setup using the web browser setup, we could simply connect our Netgear wireless range extender to our home Wi-Fi router with the help of an Ethernet cable. Once, the connections will be made like that, we just need to put 192.168.1.250 on the address bar of the web browser and search it. Within a minute or two the web browser setup will be initiated and we could setup the Netgear wireless range extender easily.
There were times when we needed a software or a CD to setup our routers and extenders. Buts after setting up our routers and extenders, we used to lose the CDs and when in future, we try to set up the Wi-Fi devices again, we were not able to find the CDs. That was too hassle to keep the CDs safe. To overcome these problems, the need of any software or CD was eliminated needed to setup the router or wireless range extender so, we could set up our Wi-Fi devices easily.
No need of a CD to setup Netgear extender
These days, we do not need any CD or software to setup the Netgear wireless range extender. We can set it up without any CD with the help of two ways. The first way is the manual configuration and the other is the automatic configuration. For the manual configuration, we should use the web browser setup. But, if we want to setup the Netgear wireless range extender automatically, we certainly have to use the wireless protected setup. We could use any of thee one to setup the Netgear wireless range extender but, the wireless protected setup is faster than the Web browser setup.
Web browser setup
Web browser setup is a manual configuration in which first, we have to connect our computer to the Wi-Fi network of Netgear wireless range extender. After that, we need to put www.mywifiext.net on the address bar of any web browser on that computer. After putting www.mywifiext.net, we need to search it. After searching, we would see the New extender setup button. We just need to click on that and the setup will get started. Then, we just need to follow few instructions on the computer screen and then it will start working.
Wireless protected setup
To use the wireless protected setup the first thing we have to do is to locate the WPS buttons on the Netgear wireless range extender and on the home router. Then we need to place both of these devices in a same room till the time setup get completed. After that, we have to press the WPS button on the router first for 3 seconds and then we have to process the WPS button on the Netgear wireless extender for 3 seconds as well. Then, it may take up to two minutes to apply all the settings. After couple of minutes the Netgear wireless range extender will start working and we could place it as per our choice.
The Netgear wireless range extenders are always manufactured by using the latest hardware and software technologies. No matter, what type of Netgear wireless range extender we use, it will always be equipped with latest features and specifications. Whether it is a wireless standard or a security standard, the Netgear wireless range extender will always be equipped with all the latest standard. While using the Netgear wireless range extender, we do not have to worry about the security. Accessing internet through Netgear wireless range extender is completely secure. We could use internet and access any websites over the internet without worrying about anything.
Several Security options to choose from
Accessing internet from Netgear wireless range extender is totally secure and reliable. While setting up the Netgear wireless range extender using the web browser setup, we could choose the type of security that we want to wish to put on the Wi-Fi network of Netgear wireless range extender. We could choose WPA, WPA-2 Personal or any other option from the list available to us. We could choose the security as per our needs and usage. But, while using the wireless protected setup, we do not have to the privilege to set the security type. The Netgear wireless range extender automatically picks up the security that is set on our home Wi-Fi router.
Connecting Wi-Fi devices with Netgear extender
After setting up the Netgear wireless range extender, we need to connect our all Wi-Fi devices to the Wi-Fi network of Netgear wireless range extender which we want to use with it. So, on the Wi-Fi devices, we have to go to settings followed by Wi-Fi settings. On the Wi-Fi settings, we have to select the Wi-Fi network of Netgear wireless range extender and click connect. Then, it will ask us for a password that we would have set according to the security type chosen. After putting, the password, we just have to click on the connect and it will get connected.
All the models of Netgear wireless range extenders comes with the WPS security feature. With the help of WPS security the Netgear wireless range extender is able to make a connection with our home router using the wireless protected setup securely. That means we do not have to do any manual configuration and all the settings like choosing the security type on the Wi-Fi network will get done automatically.
